Is Bruno Fernandes staying at Manchester United this summer? What we know
Manchester United have moved to clarify Bruno Fernandes’ future, signaling internally that the club captain is not for sale after doubts earlier this season.
The Portugal midfielder has been a key figure in United’s push for a top-five Premier League finish, and club officials now view him as central to their long-term plans.
Transfer uncertainty addressed
Reports from The Sun previously indicated that United had considered an £80 million offer from Saudi club Al-Nassr, with then-head coach Ruben Amorim playing a role in convincing Fernandes to stay. The situation appeared to unsettle the 31-year-old, who later told Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11 he felt “hurt” by the club’s willingness to listen to offers.
Since then, United’s hierarchy have taken steps to reassure Fernandes of his importance. According to The Sun, he has been told clearly that the club do not intend to sell him under any circumstances this summer.

Form and future outlook
That renewed backing has coincided with a strong run of form. Fernandes is now among the leading candidates for the PFA Player of the Year award, underlining his influence during the current campaign.
His contract includes a release clause of €65 million (£56.5 million), which can be triggered by clubs outside England, but there is growing confidence at Old Trafford that he will remain. The report adds that Fernandes himself has recently indicated he is content at the club, particularly with Champions League qualification within reach.
United currently sit third in the Premier League, with a top-five finish enough to secure a return to Europe’s top competition. Fernandes’ existing deal runs until next year, though the club hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
Leadership role
Teammates have also pointed to his leadership as a driving force behind United’s performances. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens, speaking after the 1-0 win over Chelsea, highlighted the midfielder’s influence.

“He’s not always the most vocal. He’s heard when he needs to be, especially before big games,” Lammens said.
“He tries to take us to his level as well, so he’s a leader on and off the pitch.”
Fernandes joined United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £67.7 million and has since established himself as one of the team’s most important players.
