According to the spanish media Marca, Dianna Russini, a veteran NFL reporter, resigned from The Athletic on April 14 following the emergence of photos depicting her in close contact with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
The revelations have led to significant personal consequences for both individuals, casting a shadow over Russini’s career while Vrabel’s professional standing with the Patriots remains stable.
The initial set of photos, which reportedly showed Russini and Vrabel at a resort in Sedona, Arizona, surfaced shortly before the NFL’s annual league meetings. Further images from 2020 later came to light, reportedly showing the two sharing a kiss in New York. These earlier photos are said to have predated Russini’s marriage to Shake Shack executive Kevin Goldschmidt.
Russini’s uncertain future
Since her departure from The Athletic, Russini has largely remained out of the public eye. The professional fallout appears to be substantial, with uncertainty surrounding her next career move.

According to the Daily Mail, cited by Marca, Russini is “shellshocked” by the events. A source close to the situation elaborated on her current state: “She has not really shown her hand in all of this. … She’s neither here nor there right now as the dust hasn’t settled one bit. Nobody, including herself, knows what the next move for her will be. One thing she is mainly focusing on is being a mom and to protect her kids through all of this madness.”
Vrabel’s stable position with Patriots
While Russini navigates an uncertain professional landscape, Mike Vrabel’s position as head coach of the New England Patriots appears secure. Despite the personal drama, the Patriots’ ownership group, the Krafts, has shown no immediate intention of making a change regarding Vrabel.
An unnamed source close to the team indicated the Krafts’ loyalty, stating, “The Krafts are extremely loyal and have no intention of firing Mike, nor do they want to see him quit over all this drama.”
Vrabel has reportedly entered counseling following the revelations and has since returned to his duties with the team.

The Patriots are preparing for their rookie minicamp, which is set to begin on May 8. Despite his job security, the personal toll on Vrabel is evident, with an unnamed source noting, “Mike feels terrible on many levels, especially since Dianna’s career is pretty much over, and that blood is on his hands.”
