Chapecoense-sc, from the city of Chapecó in Brazil, was founded in 1973. For much of its history, the club was a regional outfit, steadily building a local following and a community spirit at their home ground, Arena Condá, which accommodates 22,600 supporters.
However, the club’s name became known across the globe in late 2016, following the devastating plane crash that claimed the lives of most of their first-team squad, coaching staff, and directors. The tragedy sent shockwaves through the football world, prompting an unprecedented outpouring of grief, solidarity, and support from clubs and fans worldwide.
From the depths of that immense loss, Chapecoense embarked on a remarkable journey of rebuilding. Their story since then has been one of incredible resilience and an unwavering human spirit, embodying the courage of a community that continues to honour its fallen and inspire many, competing with a determination that transcends the game itself.
