Ruben Amorim is not hiding from the parallel.
“I know at Manchester United and Milan, two big clubs with the pressure to win, people expect everything in just a few months, and I feel the same pressure here,” the Portuguese said, Football Transfers reported.
He arrived at San Siro this summer as Cardinale’s personal pick. Wednesday’s Europa League opener against Benfica was his first defeat of the season in Rossoneri colours.
Lukebakio and Kaminski silence San Siro
Dodi Lukebakio put Benfica ahead in the 16th minute with a curled finish from the right, and Jakub Kaminski doubled the lead nine minutes into the second half to complete a nightmare start to Milan’s European campaign. San Siro whistled at the final whistle.

His own diagnosis was blunt.
“We are creating more problems for ourselves when we have the ball than when the opponent has it,” he said.
Cardinale still backs his summer pick
Cardinale is not ready to move. According to Football Italia’s summary of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the RedBird owner still views Amorim as his targeted summer appointment, and there is no risk of the 41-year-old being pushed out after only five league matches. The two have scheduled a face-to-face review to go over what has and has not worked.
That support has a paper trail. Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, reported that Amorim’s contract runs through 2029 with an option for 2030 at roughly €4-5 million a year and that the Portuguese “was chosen by Gerry Cardinale, defended by Gerry Cardinale and continues to be supported by Cardinale.”

Moretto did not sugarcoat the concerns either.
“There are several doubts surrounding Amorim. It is striking that he keeps changing the starting XI,” he said.
Lecce is the next test
Amorim’s league form has been steadier than his overall record, with the Rossoneri unbeaten across their opening Serie A fixtures, though back-to-back draws against Juventus and Lazio have already left points on the table.
The next league game is at San Siro on Sunday, when Milan host Lecce in Serie A at 8:45pm local time.
