Bayern Munich have not moved on. Italian transfer reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has reiterated that the Bundesliga champions still want Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, four months after a summer approach collapsed.

“It’s true that Bayern Munich want Rio Ngumoha, and it’s true that Liverpool want to extend his contract, so it’s a difficult situation, because anything is possible,” Di Marzio said.

“It’s hard to imagine Liverpool letting him go. Bayern Munich are pushing for him, and Arsenal are also interested.”

Kompany’s phone call

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany went to the player himself in the summer. According to Sky’s reporting at the time, Kompany spoke personally with Ngumoha and secured a verbal agreement, though Bayern never formalised a bid as Liverpool refused to sell.

Kompany remains in charge at the Allianz Arena on a contract that runs until 2029, which gives the Belgian a long runway to keep returning for the teenager.

“I think it is all going well”

The player himself has sounded relaxed. Speaking after Liverpool’s 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford, Ngumoha addressed the contract question briefly.

“To be fair, that is all with my agent now. I think it is all going well,” Ngumoha told reporters, in comments carried by Caught Offside.

“I just let the football do the talking at the end of the day.”

This Is Anfield’s Lewis Steele reported the extension is considered “a matter of when, not if”, with Liverpool expecting progress in the coming weeks.

Why three clubs want him

Ngumoha has nine competitive appearances for Liverpool this season and two assists, numbers that help explain the sustained interest. He also became the third-youngest player to feature in a competitive match for England when he came off the bench in a 2-0 win over Czechia, having originally debuted for Liverpool at 16.

Arsenal are also monitoring the situation, with Mikel Arteta’s side joining Bayern on the shortlist of clubs waiting for Liverpool to slip.

His current Liverpool deal runs until June 2028, and the extension offer from Anfield is expected to be put in front of him within weeks.
