Arsenal triumph highlights unique day in league history
A statistical quirk across the Premier League on Sunday produced a milestone the competition had never seen before and Arsenal’s victory over Chelsea completed the pattern.
According to football statistician Andrew Beasley, four matches on the same matchday finished with the identical 2-1 scoreline, marking the first time in Premier League history that at least four games in a single round have ended with the same result.
In a post on social media, Beasley wrote:
"This is the first day in Premier League history to feature at least four matches that all ended with the same scoreline."
Brighton and Hove Albion, Fulham and Manchester United had already recorded 2-1 wins against Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace respectively before Arsenal took the field. The Gunners’ narrow triumph ensured the symmetry held across four separate fixtures.

While clusters of identical draws have occurred before in 1995, for example, five of eight top-flight matches ended 1-1 there had never previously been four games on the same day sharing the exact same score.
Arsenal strengthen title position
Beyond the statistical footnote, the result carried major implications at the top of the table.
Arsenal’s 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium moved them five points clear of Manchester City, giving Mikel Arteta’s side breathing room in an increasingly tight title race. At this stage of the season, even a small cushion can shift pressure onto chasing rivals.
William Saliba and Jurrien Timber scored for Arsenal, while Chelsea had earlier drawn level through an own goal credited to Piero Hincapie. The contest shifted further in Arsenal’s favor after Chelsea were reduced to 10 men, forcing the visitors to defend deep for long stretches.

Arteta praised both the performance and the resilience of his squad afterward.
He said:
"Very, very happy.
"The players made an incredible performance as well and put so much into the game. After the great victory against Spurs, this would be even another level of difficulty."
Reflecting on the tactical battle, Arteta added:
"Against 10 men, I expected a different game.

"Look at the quality on the pitch - immense, but set-pieces are still the ones that made the difference. They are so good at that, and we are so good at that as well."
Arsenal now turn their focus to Wednesday’s trip to Brighton’s AMEX Stadium, another test that could shape momentum in the title race as the season enters a decisive stretch.
