However, GiveMeSport reports that Arsenal may already have taken a longer-term approach to solving the position with the signing of 19-year-old James Scanlon from Manchester United’s academy. His arrival is not expected to provide an immediate answer for the first team, but instead represents a calculated investment in the club’s future.

The hope is that Scanlon can develop into a genuine senior option on the left wing, potentially removing the need for Arsenal to spend a substantial transfer fee on an established star further down the line. Scanlon has already made an encouraging start to life at Arsenal. As highlighted by GiveMeSport, the youngster scored on his debut for the club’s U21 side against Brighton, offering supporters an early glimpse of why Arsenal were keen to bring him to north London.
The winger found the net after drifting inside from the left flank before finishing precisely into the bottom corner with his right foot. It was exactly the type of action Arsenal will hope to see more frequently as he continues his development within the club’s academy system.
While Scanlon remains a prospect rather than a ready-made Premier League starter, his signing fits Arsenal’s broader strategy of identifying young talent capable of eventually breaking into the senior squad.
