AC Milan’s flirtation with Viktor Gyökeres looks unlikely to turn into a transfer this window, with the Serie A club unwilling to meet Arsenal’s terms.

That is the verdict of Milan reporter Carlo Pellegatti, whose comments on Milan News were picked up this week as the clearest signal yet that the deal will not happen.

“I don’t think so, I don’t believe in the Gyokeres track because it would mean, on loan I don’t think they’ll give it to us at all, it would mean investing another 70 or 75 million for the striker, I’d rule that out,” Pellegatti told Milan News.

Milan already spent about €74m on Gonçalo Ramos over the summer, and adding another nine-figure fee for a second centre forward is not on the table for head coach Ruben Amorim, who was appointed on 16 June 2026.

Gyökeres out of favour under Arteta

The 28-year-old’s future has been on the agenda because of his slow start to the 2026/27 campaign. He has featured for just 29 minutes in the Premier League and 207 minutes across five appearances in all competitions, with manager Mikel Arteta preferring Kai Havertz as his first-choice number nine.

Talks between Gyökeres’s representatives and both Milan and Juventus have been reported, alongside interest from Saudi Pro League sides Al Ahli and Al Ittihad. Arsenal are not actively pushing for a sale but could show flexibility in January 2027 if a suitable replacement is lined up first.

The player himself has not asked for the exit door.

“Of course, it’s frustrating, no matter where you are. You always want to be on the pitch,” Gyökeres said, while insisting he is “extremely happy” at Arsenal and that staying “was a given”.

Why Arsenal will not budge

Arsenal signed Gyökeres from Sporting CP in the summer of 2025 for a guaranteed fee of around €66m plus €10m in add-ons, on a five-year contract running until 2030. He scored 21 goals across all competitions last season, 14 in the Premier League, as Arsenal won the title and reached the Champions League final.

Pellegatti’s €70m to €75m estimate reflects the sort of fee Arsenal are said to want to recover most of that outlay.

The next chance for movement is the January 2027 window, which opens on 1 January.
