Supreme Sha Tin, newly promoted and currently eighth in the Hong Kong Premier League, announced the signing of David Silva on Wednesday. The 40-year-old has not played competitive football since 2023, when a torn ACL in preseason training at Real Sociedad ended his career without a farewell match.
The club called it “a crazy moment” and said Silva would travel to Hong Kong soon “to settle in, link up with squad training, and build up to peak match fitness before making his pitch debut.”
“I’m really looking forward to going to Hong Kong to enjoy the culture, the people, and the food in Sha Tin, and the football in Hong Kong, of course,” Silva said in the club’s announcement.
The deal covers the rest of the current season. A possible debut date has been floated for 18 October at Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground, when Sha Tin face Hong Kong Football Club, although the club has made clear that match fitness will decide when Silva actually plays.

125 Spain caps and four Premier League titles
Silva’s professional story had looked finished three years ago. He suffered the ACL injury in summer 2023 during preseason with Real Sociedad and retired that same month, closing out a career that spanned Valencia, Manchester City and three seasons in San Sebastián.
Behind him lay 10 seasons at Manchester City between 2010 and 2020, four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups. For Spain he won 125 caps, lifting the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships along the way.
Supreme Sha Tin’s season so far
Supreme Sha Tin earned promotion to the Hong Kong Premier League last season and have taken one win from their first four matches of the current campaign. The club was founded in 1982 and has spent most of its history outside the top division.
Sha Tin’s next fixture is at home to Hong Kong Football Club on 18 October.
