Liverpool have shifted their pursuit of Bradley Barcola up a gear. Talks with Paris Saint-Germain have moved from difficult to positive over the past fortnight, and there is a growing belief that a deal can be struck before the window closes.

The valuation gap that has hung over the summer has narrowed without vanishing. PSG have been asking around £145m for the 23-year-old France international, who has entered the final two years of his contract and is understood to be attracted by the move to Anfield. Liverpool are the only club still actively chasing him.

Grealish weighs Sunderland loan

Jack Grealish’s exit from the Etihad has moved from possibility to logistics. Sunderland have proposed a loan in which Manchester City would cover part of the wages, with the option to make the move permanent next summer when Grealish’s contract expires.

Everton, where the 30-year-old spent last season on loan and returned two goals and six assists in 22 games before a foot injury ended his campaign in January, have kept their interest live. Aston Villa and Milan have also been in contact, and Grealish is expected to decide within days.

Gyokeres offers himself to Barcelona

Barcelona had not been looking at Viktor Gyokeres this summer. That may be about to change. Spanish outlet COPE reports that the Swedish striker’s agent is pushing for a meeting with Barcelona sporting director Deco after the Catalan club’s top targets, Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez, proved out of reach.

Gyokeres, 28, was Arsenal’s top scorer as they won the Premier League last season, but concerns over his fit in the wider attack have persisted and Mikel Arteta has been active in the market for further forwards. Arteta said on 1 August that the striker would stay. Arsenal have not been contacted by Barcelona.

City miss the deadline for Enzo Fernandez

Manchester City want one more attempt at Enzo Fernandez. City did not submit a bid before Chelsea’s 15 August cut-off, but the Blues would still consider selling the Argentina international, whose valuation sits at around £120m and whose personal terms were agreed with his representatives in May.

Fernandez himself is understood to be open to the move. He was booed by a section of Chelsea supporters during the recent friendly against Real Sociedad, and City have five days left to bridge a stubborn gap in valuation.

Arsenal still pushing for Alvarez

Arsenal’s own centre-forward search still runs through Julian Alvarez. The Argentina international has been linked with Barcelona for most of the window, but that pursuit has stalled, and Arsenal are trying to press the advantage before Tuesday. If Alvarez arrives at the Emirates, Gyokeres’ flirtation with the Camp Nou could accelerate quickly.

Premier League summer spending has already passed £2bn, the second-highest total on record behind last summer’s £3.14bn. The window closes at 11pm UK time on Tuesday, 1 September.
