Bournemouth’s Hollywood owner now has an Oscar
How a Hollywood star became linked to Bournemouth
A Premier League football club is rarely connected to the Academy Awards, but Bournemouth now has a direct link to one of Hollywood’s biggest prizes through actor Michael B. Jordan.
Jordan became a minority owner of Bournemouth in 2022 when American businessman Bill Foley led a takeover of the south coast club. Foley’s investment group, Black Knight Football Club, purchased Bournemouth as part of a broader strategy to build a network of football teams.
According to sports media outlet Men in Blazers, Jordan recently won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in the film Sinners. While the award belongs to the actor personally, the achievement gives Bournemouth an unusual distinction among football clubs, a member of its ownership group is now an Academy Award winner.
For readers less familiar with English football, Bournemouth is a relatively small club compared with traditional giants such as Manchester United, Liverpool or Arsenal. The team competes in the Premier League, England’s top football division and one of the most watched sports leagues in the world.

Celebrity investors are becoming common in football
Jordan’s involvement in Bournemouth reflects a wider trend across global sports. In recent years, celebrities and high profile investors from entertainment, technology and finance have increasingly bought stakes in professional teams.
According to Men in Blazers, Jordan’s connection to Bournemouth has not been purely symbolic. During the 2023, 2024 season the club released two special edition kits created in collaboration with the actor.
Those projects were designed partly to expand the club’s international profile, linking a smaller Premier League side with a globally recognizable Hollywood figure.
The crossover between football and entertainment has become more common as clubs look for ways to grow their audience beyond traditional supporters.
