Carragher slams Salah over ‘disgraceful’ post-match comments
Salah, who has not started any of Liverpool’s last three matches, stopped to speak with journalists on his way out of the stadium — something he rarely does.
According to Sky Sports, he accused both Liverpool and head coach Arne Slot of having “thrown me under the bus,” adding that “someone wanted me to get all of the blame.”
Slot later addressed the situation during his Monday press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League trip to Inter Milan, though he declined to escalate the dispute, saying team selection was based on “football reasons.”
Carragher’s sharp response
Carragher, speaking from the Sky Sports studio after the broadcast, did not mince words.
“I thought it was a disgrace with what he did,” he said, arguing that Salah and his agent appeared to have “choreographed” the timing to make the greatest impact.

He added that the forward seemed to wait for a disappointing result before speaking out, suggesting the move risked undermining Slot at a difficult moment in Liverpool’s season.
The former defender has criticised Salah’s public comments before, particularly during last year’s contract negotiations, and said the pattern felt familiar.
Tension around legacy and expectations
Carragher also questioned how Salah framed his own achievements. While acknowledging the forward’s extraordinary scoring record and status as a modern Liverpool great, he pointed out that before arriving at Anfield, Salah “was known as the guy who failed at Chelsea,” and noted Egypt have yet to win the Africa Cup of Nations during his tenure as the national team’s star player.
His underlying point, Carragher said, was that even elite players depend on the collective: “You need help from your teammates, your manager and fans.”
Some analysts have echoed that interpretation, suggesting Salah’s comments may reflect broader frustration as Liverpool attempt to stabilise after several inconsistent months.

What it means for Liverpool
It is unclear how the dressing room has reacted to the situation, but the timing is delicate. Salah, who is under contract until 2027, is expected to join Egypt for AFCON duties after Liverpool’s next league fixture.
With a crucial Champions League meeting at San Siro on Tuesday, Slot now faces the dual challenge of selecting a side for Inter Milan while managing the fallout from one of the club’s most influential figures publicly airing grievances.
