Jordan Henderson broke the deadlock after 66 seconds, striking first time into the far post. Morgan Rogers made it 2-0 at the 2:29 mark, meeting a Henderson delivery that deflected past the Bournemouth goalkeeper. The free-signing midfielder, who joined Chelsea from Brentford on a two-year deal in August, later added a second goal from a free kick to finish the night with two goals and an assist.
Only two sides had ever reached a 2-0 lead quicker in Premier League history, according to The Analyst: Leicester City against Derby County in April 1998, and Luton Town against Brighton in January 2024. Henderson’s own feat, a goal and an assist inside two and a half minutes, had been bettered just once in the competition’s history, by Emile Heskey against Derby in that same 1998 match.
João Pedro’s brace puts the game beyond doubt
Chelsea needed only seconds of the second half to go three up. João Pedro, returning from a spell on the sidelines, finished from close range inside the opening minute after the restart. Bournemouth pulled a goal back through Evanilson on 51 minutes, the striker converting after a blocked clearance ran kindly for him.
The visitors never got closer. João Pedro restored the three-goal cushion on 67 minutes with a tap-in, and Henderson curled a free kick past the wall three minutes later to complete the scoring at 5-1.

A first league win since August for Xabi Alonso
The result was Chelsea’s first Premier League win since late August, ending a difficult run heading into and out of the October international break. Xabi Alonso, who took over at Stamford Bridge on a four-year deal in the summer, had been under growing pressure after two league defeats in his previous six games in charge.
“Today it was a very complete performance,” Alonso told reporters afterwards. “We were in control for most parts.”
The Spaniard reserved particular praise for Henderson, who became Chelsea’s oldest English Premier League goalscorer since John Terry in 2017. The former Liverpool captain had been signed as part of what Alonso described as a veteran core, a move that drew scepticism when it was confirmed on a free transfer in August.
“He’s done many, many good things,” Alonso said of the midfielder.
