Two Premier League clubs on the same side of London do not tend to trade on deadline day. On Monday, 31 August 2026, Chelsea and Tottenham did it twice.
Mykhailo Mudryk is going to Spurs on a season-long loan for 2026/27, with Tottenham covering the loan fee and his wages and an option to buy at the end of the campaign that is not mandatory. The buy figure is the striking part: £75m, or €87.5m.
The logic on Chelsea’s side is squad, not sentiment. Under new head coach Xabi Alonso, first-team minutes at Stamford Bridge were set to be at a premium for a winger who has not played competitively since November 2024. A high option preserves Chelsea’s upside if Mudryk rediscovers his form, without forcing them into a sale they may later regret.
The second deal was originally meant to be a loan too. Tosin Adarabioyo, a 28-year-old defender, is moving to Tottenham for a fixed fee of £7m plus add-ons once it became clear that Premier League rules do not allow two loans from the same club in the same window.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on X:
“Tottenham are ready to buy Tosin on permanent deal from Chelsea if they can also get Mudryk loan deal done.”
Cleared on 31 July after WADA rule change
Mudryk’s presence in any deadline-day deal was itself unlikely just a month ago. On 31 July, the FA and WADA resolved his appeal against a four-year suspension after a positive meldonium test in October 2024.
Under updated WADA thresholds, the FA accepted that “if Mr Mudryk’s sample was collected today, the concentration of meldonium in the sample would not have been reported.”

“Mr Mudryk is no longer ineligible and may return to competition with immediate effect,” the FA said, reducing his ban to the time already served.
Adarabioyo replaces Danso for £7m
The Adarabioyo deal fills the space left by Kevin Danso, who has joined Sunderland. Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi gains a right-footed centre-back with Premier League experience for a modest outlay.
Mudryk will undergo a medical before his loan is finalised.
