Estevao Willian has played 23 minutes of Premier League football this season. The 19-year-old Brazilian is contracted at Chelsea until 2033 and now carries a £111m (€130m) price tag hung on him by a club that continues to insist he is untouchable.
Deco is watching. Barcelona’s sporting director, who tried and failed to sign Estevao when the winger was still at Palmeiras, has been tracking developments at Stamford Bridge, with president Joan Laporta reported to have made the Brazilian a priority.
A cold war over position and physique
Spanish outlet Sport first used the “cold war” framing to describe the deterioration between player and coach. According to Goal’s reporting on that story, the disagreement is about position and body: Estevao wants to drift inside from the right, but the No. 10 role is occupied by Cole Palmer, and he is said to be resisting the club’s push to add muscle for fear of losing pace and agility.
Xabi Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 system has left him on the fringes. His only starts of the campaign have come in the EFL Cup; in the league he has been used sparingly off the bench, most recently coming on in the 87th minute against Brentford.

The Chelsea manager insists he is committed to bringing the teenager through.
“With Este, 100% because of his potential, because he’s so young but he’s in that process to adapt and to learn quick. And the season is going to be long,” Alonso told reporters this week.
Estevao himself has taken a diplomatic line while on international duty with Brazil.
“I think every coach has their own way of playing. Of course, we work every day, I give my best every day, and that’s what I do,” he said.

What Barcelona would have to pay
The €130m Chelsea have set as a floor is more than double the €61.5m they paid Palmeiras for Estevao. Football Transfers puts his current market value at €78.7m, in a range from €70.8m to €86.6m, meaning Chelsea are demanding a premium of roughly 50% on top of the algorithm’s high end.
Barcelona had a chance to sign him earlier and did not take it. They watched Estevao at Palmeiras, then prioritised Lamine Yamal on the right and let Chelsea sign him. Deco is now looking at the same profile again, at nearly double the money.
Real Madrid and Liverpool have also been linked, and the agent Andre Cury has said publicly that his client has a “special affiliation” for Barcelona. Chelsea’s stated position, restated at the weekend, is that the winger is not for sale in 2027 and remains central to the project. The €130m demand is the number each of the interested clubs has been given.
