Djokovic shocks tennis world by walking away from his own players’ movement
A sudden break from a movement he helped build
Novak Djokovic has confirmed that he is cutting ties with the Professional Tennis Players Association, the organisation he co founded to represent the interests of professional tennis players.
According to statements published by Djokovic on X late Sunday, the decision followed a period of reassessment about his involvement in the group and its current direction.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to step away completely from the Professional Tennis Players Association,” Djokovic wrote, adding that his choice was driven by “ongoing concerns regarding transparency, governance, and the way my voice and image have been represented.”
The posts quickly attracted millions of views, highlighting the significance of the announcement from one of the most influential figures in men’s tennis.

From founding vision to growing distance
Djokovic later expanded on his position in a follow up message, reflecting on the original purpose behind the organisation.
According to Djokovic, the PTPA was founded alongside Canadian player Vasek Pospisil to give players a stronger and more independent voice within the sport, separate from existing governing bodies.
“I am proud of the vision that Vasek and I shared when founding the PTPA, giving players a stronger, independent voice,” he said.
However, Djokovic also acknowledged that his perspective no longer aligns with the organisation’s current leadership, writing that “it has become clear that my values and approach are no longer aligned with the current direction of the organization.”

The PTPA was launched in 2020 and has positioned itself as an advocate for player welfare, transparency, and structural reform in professional tennis.
A personal reset away from tennis politics
Djokovic indicated that his decision marks a broader shift in focus away from organisational involvement.
According to his posts, he now intends to prioritise his playing career, his family life, and other ways of contributing to the sport that reflect his personal principles.
“I will continue to focus on my tennis, my family, and contributing to the sport in ways that reflect my principles and integrity,” he wrote.
