Bayern Munich’s board member for sport Max Eberl says an extension for Harry Kane is a matter of both sides sitting down and finishing the job.
Eberl addressed the negotiations after Bayern’s 4-1 DFB-Pokal first-round win at VfL Osnabrück on Wednesday, a match in which Kane scored twice.
“A formality is, of course, relative. The talks have to take place, just as the games have to be,” Eberl said.
“What we can say is that both sides want it, and then it should work.”
Kane brace papers over a shaky start
Robin Meißner stunned Bayern with a 30-metre volley in the fifth minute at the Bremer Brücke, but the champions responded through Kane in the 18th and Tom Bischof six minutes later. Michael Olise chipped in a third, and Kane sealed the tie from the penalty spot in the 86th minute for Vincent Kompany’s side.
That penalty was Kane’s 148th goal in his 150th appearance in Bayern colours.
Two-year offer, Kane’s camp wants three
Kane’s contract, signed when he joined from Tottenham in the summer of 2023, runs to 30 June 2027. Bayern want a two-year extension to 2029; Kane’s camp has pushed for a deal through 2030, with reports of a possible compromise that would give the striker a firm 2029 end date and an option for a further year.
The 33-year-old scored 36 Bundesliga goals last season to finish as the division’s top scorer for a third straight year, the first player ever to top the Bundesliga charts in each of his first three campaigns in Germany.

Eberl not promising a signature
Eberl, who has led Bayern’s transfer strategy since 2024, was careful not to promise a signature.
“Whether it will be easy, I don’t know, but we remain confident,” he said.
His public tone matches Kane’s. After the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart, the striker told reporters a first meeting had taken place and that both parties were “relaxed” about the timing.
