Ex England player arrested on suspicion of attempted rape
A former England international footballer was arrested at Stansted Airport on Sunday after police linked him to an allegation of attempted rape made several weeks earlier. Essex Police told ESPN that the man was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape of a former partner and later granted bail. His bail is set to continue until late February 2026, giving investigators additional time to gather evidence and review information connected to the complaint.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Essex Police said, “A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and has been bailed to a date in late February 2026 while we continue our enquiries.” No charges have been filed, and officers have not released further information about the complainant.
Being placed on bail does not indicate guilt or innocence. Instead, it allows investigators to continue working on the case while requiring the individual to return for future questioning or court appearances if needed.
