Ferran Torres could not have scripted a better start to his European life at Paris Saint-Germain. On Wednesday night in Paris, the Spain forward scored three times to become the first player in PSG history to net a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for the club.

The scoreboard was already running away by the time Torres took over. Ousmane Dembélé had struck twice inside 23 minutes, a converted rebound on 17 and a header six minutes later, before Torres tapped in on the half-hour from a Dembélé pass.

Torres curls in his second

Torres’s second arrived two minutes into the second half, a curled finish from outside the penalty area after Maghnes Akliouche cut through midfield. His third followed in the 57th minute, when he glanced a Dembélé corner past the goalkeeper to make it 5-0.

The 26-year-old said the treble had not been in his plans.

“It is impossible, you cannot expect to score a hat-trick. The only thing that we knew before the game was that we had to play with the right intensity, press when we lost the ball, and we did that really well,” Torres told reporters.

Camara’s consolation for Yaya Touré’s side

Suleiman Camara pulled a goal back for the Slovakian visitors two minutes after Torres had completed his hat-trick, evading a defender and firing into the top corner. Fabián Ruiz restored the five-goal cushion in the 88th minute, tapping home a loose ball inside the box.

The visitors, coached by former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré, had no answer to PSG’s high press. Luis Enrique’s side dominated possession from the first whistle, and Dembélé had already struck the crossbar with a powerful effort before the half-hour mark.

Dembélé’s fingerprints on every Torres goal

The reigning champions began their title defence with a performance built around one partnership. Dembélé finished the evening with two goals and two assists for Torres, and every one of Torres’s three goals arrived from a Dembélé involvement in the build-up.
