A clip shared on social media captured the Bayern Munich striker standing in the middle of the nightclub crowd, raising a shot in salute as golden bottles were hoisted into the air around him.

Kane had become the first British winner of the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001, rewarded for a season of 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country. He finished ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal on a night staged outside France for the first time in the award’s history.

The Soho afterparty

The party moved a short walk from the Palladium to Cirque le Soir, a Soho club that bills itself as “iconic and immersive,” with circus performers, an in-house funfair and live music among its advertised draws.

Kane’s wife Katie Goodland was at his side throughout, along with his parents and his brother Charlie, who also acts as his agent. The Tottenham contingent was impossible to miss: Eric Dier, who left Spurs to follow Kane to Bayern, alongside Matt Doherty and veteran defender Ben Davies. Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood was also in the room.

Before the party, Kane had already shared a slice of the mood. On the pavement outside the Palladium he filmed himself hoisting the trophy to cheers from fans and posted the clip to Instagram, still in his tuxedo, grin wide.

A decade of near-misses

For most of his career the England captain had been a top scorer at tournaments and in individual seasons without a team medal to show for it. A run of final heartbreaks in the Champions League, the Premier League and the European Championship had made him a tragic figure in English football.

That began to change when he joined Bayern Munich in 2023 and started lifting German titles. On Monday it changed again, decisively, with football’s most prestigious individual award.

Bayern are back in action against 1. FC Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal second round on Wednesday.
