The 22-year-old was found dead on Friday, 27 December. The club confirmed the tragic news on Instagram, describing his death as unexpected.

“The entire SSV family is deeply shocked and in mourning. His teammates and club staff grieve, and our thoughts are with his family and friends,” the club wrote.
Cause of Death Unknown
Local media outlet Reutlinger General-Anzeiger reported that Luca Meixner was found dead in his bed. The cause of death has not yet been made public.

Luca Meixner spent four years on the club’s first team after having played an equal amount of time in the youth divisions.
