Formula One chaos: Bahrain and Saudi Arabian grands prix cancellations following war in Iran

Report suggests two early season races could be cancelled

According to Spanish motorsport outlet SoyMotor, the Bahrain Grand Prix and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix are facing possible cancellation as Formula One evaluates the security situation in the region.

The two races are scheduled to take place in April, with Bahrain set to host the championship at the Bahrain International Circuit before the series moves to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah.

However, the ongoing conflict involving Iran has raised significant concerns about safety and logistics. Reports indicate that missile strikes and regional military activity have affected parts of the Middle East, creating uncertainty around upcoming international sporting events.

Formula One and the FIA have not yet confirmed whether the races will go ahead, but the situation is being closely monitored by senior officials.

Growing concerns about regional security

The uncertainty surrounding the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races follows a broader escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

According to reporting from AP News, Formula One has delayed making a final decision on the two races as the conflict involving Iran continues to develop, with both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia affected by regional security concerns.

The Bahrain Grand Prix is currently scheduled for April 12, while the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah is planned for April 19.

Formula One chief Stefano Domenicali and the FIA are expected to review the situation in the coming weeks before confirming whether the events will remain on the calendar.

Potential impact on the Formula One calendar

If the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races are cancelled, the Formula One calendar could temporarily shrink.

Several reports suggest that the two events may not be replaced due to the logistical challenges involved in organising a race on short notice.

According to Crash.net, replacement venues have been discussed, but the time required to transport equipment, arrange staffing, and prepare circuits makes last minute changes extremely difficult.

As a result, the championship schedule could be reduced if the races are officially removed from the calendar.

Discussion about possible schedule changes

Following the reports, fans and commentators have begun discussing potential ways Formula One could adjust the calendar if the two races do not take place.

One idea circulating online proposes moving the Miami Grand Prix and Canadian Grand Prix earlier in the season. Another suggestion is to reintroduce the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola later in the year to maintain the total number of races.

At this stage, however, neither Formula One nor the FIA has indicated that any of these proposals are under consideration.

For now, teams, organisers, and fans are waiting for an official announcement that will determine whether the Bahrain Grand Prix and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix can proceed as planned.
