The England captain’s current contract runs out at the end of the 2026/27 season, and both Kane and the club insist a new deal is coming. It just is not there yet.
Football Insider reported on Monday that Manchester United see themselves as the “leading candidates” to sign Kane on a free next summer should Bayern fail to tie him down, and that Barcelona are also monitoring the situation.
Kane has been consistent in public about where he wants to be. Speaking after the first round of formal extension talks this month, he told reporters that the mood on both sides was positive.
“I’d like to stay long term. We’ll have to see how many years that is.”

“There’s no panic from either side. I’m sure we’ll reach a point where both sides are happy.”
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen used the same press conference to play down any drama.
“The chemistry is perfect, so we’re completely relaxed about the matter.”
Kane: ‘not the next week or two’
According to Football Insider, Kane has told the ongoing talks that a deal is unlikely to be wrapped up quickly. The 33-year-old is quoted as saying he does not expect it to be done “in the next week or two”, but hopes to reach a resolution “in the next one or two months”, with several terms still to be worked through.

The picture that emerges from the reporting is not one of a striker looking for the exit. It is one of a long, careful negotiation at a club where his family is settled and where his form has been outstanding.
Kane broke the Bundesliga’s all-time scoring-rate record in September, reaching 100 league goals in his 98th appearance in Bayern’s 7-0 win over Union Berlin. The previous benchmark, Dieter Müller’s 129 games, had stood for decades.
“I’m extremely happy here. The talks are ongoing. I really appreciate the support the fans are showing me here,” Kane said after the game.
Barcelona still in the picture
Barcelona’s interest is a running story rather than a fresh one. The Catalan club, still looking for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski after his summer departure, have previously spoken to Kane’s representatives and are keeping an eye on his situation, though the pursuit is acknowledged as ambitious given his stated preference for Bayern.

Sky Sports reported over the summer that Kane and his family are very happy with life in Munich and that any move away would require significant persuasion, financial and otherwise.
What Michael Carrick’s United gain from waiting
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick, confirmed in the role permanently before the season, has never spoken publicly about a Kane move. But the logic of the Football Insider report is clear: if Bayern and Kane cannot agree by the new year, United would be one of a small group of clubs with the resources to take a Ballon d’Or-tier striker on a free transfer.
For now, the striker’s own timeline is the only firm one on record: another one or two months of talks, and both sides expecting the same outcome.
