Harry Kane has put his own clock on his contract talks. In an interview with The Independent, the 33-year-old England forward said an extension at Bayern Munich is nearly settled and made clear the club will not be far off announcing it.

“We’re in good talks. We’re fairly close. There’s still some things that we need to iron out,” Kane said.

He then put a rough marker on when it would land.

“I’m happy there. I think it won’t be too long before there’s some sort of announcement.”

Kane’s current contract runs until the summer of 2027, and reporting around the extension has consistently pointed to a new deal that would keep him in Bavaria until at least 2029.

€25m salary and a release clause

Kane’s brother Charlie and father Patrick have been leading the talks on his side. Recent reporting on the negotiations says both parties have agreed the new contract will run at least until 2029, and that Kane’s annual salary, reported to be around €25 million gross, is not expected to drop across those additional years. An early request from his camp for a release clause has also been part of the discussions.

Kane framed the extension as more of the same rather than a new phase.

“I feel really comfortable in the team, with the coach, the environment. I want to just be at this level and push this level for as long as possible.”

Hainer’s Oktoberfest signal on the deal

Bayern president Herbert Hainer gave the club’s public read three days before Kane spoke, when he was asked about the striker during Bayern’s traditional Oktoberfest visit.

“We want to extend with him and I also think that’s what will happen,” Hainer said.

He would not put a date on it, but he was clear on the mood.

“Today is a day to enjoy Oktoberfest. We’ll talk about contracts later. But I’m very confident. He feels extremely comfortable in Munich, as does his family, he can win titles with us. He’s never won as many titles as he has since he joined Bayern,” Hainer told reporters.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had struck the same note at the start of the process, telling the club’s own channel that “the chemistry is perfect, so we’re completely relaxed about the matter.”

Decision expected after the international break

Bayern’s board member for sport Max Eberl has publicly backed Kane for this year’s Ballon d’Or, while CEO Dreesen has indicated the negotiations could conclude once the current three-week international break is over.

Talks between the two sides resume when Kane returns to Munich after England duty, with Bayern’s hierarchy and the player’s camp both expecting the last outstanding details to be settled shortly after.
