Harry Kane does not often miss from twelve yards. Five days after being handed the Ballon d’Or and feted by his home crowd in Munich, the England captain struck the crossbar from the spot in the 56th minute of a 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund, with Bayern leading 1-0.
It was only his second unsuccessful spot-kick in 27 Bundesliga attempts, according to Opta, after Felix Nmecha had handled his volley at a corner. Within four minutes the lead had vanished: Serhou Guirassy, teed up by Carney Chukwuemeka, swept past Manuel Neuer.
Upamecano restores the lead six minutes later
Bayern responded almost immediately. In the 66th minute, Joshua Kimmich’s cross from the right found Kane at the back post, and the striker’s header back across goal was prodded home by Dayot Upamecano, restoring the advantage that Konrad Laimer’s 38th-minute strike had first given them.
The lead held until the 89th. Aleksandar Pavlović went down softly under a challenge from Konstantinos Karetsas, who had come on as a Dortmund substitute, and from the loose ball Fabio Silva drove low into the far corner.

Bayern on top only on goal difference
Both clubs are unbeaten after eight matchdays. The draw leaves Niko Kovač’s Dortmund level with the hosts on 18 points, with Bayern first only on goal difference (+19 to +8), as OneFootball noted in its match report.
Kovač had told Bundesliga.com before kick-off that one defender could not do the job alone.
“We won’t be able to stop him one-on-one. As I keep saying, we have to do it together. I always say that it takes 11 players, and only when all 11 are performing at the highest level can you get a result in Munich.”
Danks takes charge in Kompany’s absence
The Bayern dugout was missing its usual occupant. Head coach Vincent Kompany was absent after a hospital stay the previous week, having collapsed at the club’s training ground on Friday 24 October while watching a reserve-team session. Assistant Aaron Danks took charge for the first time in a Klassiker.
