On Patrick Bet-David’s PBD Podcast, Floyd Mayweather framed Conor McGregor’s whole public act as borrowed goods.

“You mean the guy that took my whole swag and took it over there to the UFC?” Mayweather said when the Irishman’s name came up.

The retired boxer argued McGregor’s global pull only arrived after they shared a ring in 2017.

“As soon as Conor McGregor faced Floyd Mayweather, I mean, he was big as life. What was his biggest payday, what was his biggest fight?”

“Actually, I think me and Conor McGregor may lock up again.”

Nothing is signed. No venue, no network, no date. But the tease is enough to pull the loudest crossover event in combat sports history back into the news cycle.

Dana White is already a no

UFC CEO Dana White has publicly rejected the rematch premise. “There was nothing about the Mayweather fight that makes me say, ‘You know, if we did that again, there might be a different outcome,’” White said on the Spinnin Backfist MMA Show.

A rematch has not been proposed to the UFC, and White’s position is that the first fight settled the sporting question.

McGregor is still in recovery

McGregor’s return to the UFC collapsed almost immediately. His comeback bout against Max Holloway at UFC 329 on 12 July 2026 ended 69 seconds into the first round when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament, after five years out of competition.

“We’re assuming blown ACL. I’m not a doctor, but that’s what I figured,” White said after the event.

The 2017 scoreboard

The fight Mayweather wants back in the conversation is the second-biggest boxing pay-per-view ever. The 26 August 2017 bout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas pulled 4.3 million domestic PPV buys and more than $600 million in total revenue, according to Showtime. The live gate was $55,414,865.79, confirmed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Mayweather’s disclosed purse was $100m. McGregor’s was $30m. Pressed on the final number by Bet-David, the boxer gave his own figure.

“When he got me, what kind of money did he make? I think I made about $300 [million]. I don’t like to count another man’s pocket, but he ate good.”

Mayweather stopped McGregor in the 10th round for a technical knockout, with the Irishman winning early rounds before fading.

No promoter has set a date

Mayweather is openly interested. McGregor has not spoken on this specific round of comments. White is on record against the fight. McGregor’s knee is still rebuilding from July surgery, and no promoter has set a date.
