Bayern Munich are watching Phil Foden’s situation at Manchester City closely, TeamTalk reported on Wednesday, as the fallout from City’s guilty verdict on 114 of 115 Premier League financial charges begins to reach the transfer market.
The Bundesliga champions have reportedly identified Foden as a potential target should City’s punishment force the club to part with senior stars. Nothing has been put to City. It is a link, not a bid.
At the centre of the connection is Vincent Kompany, the former City captain now in charge at Bayern. Per TeamTalk, Kompany would be enthusiastic about a reunion with a player who came through at the Etihad while he was still the club’s on-pitch leader.
City guilty on 114 of 115 charges
An independent commission found on 25 September that Manchester City had breached Premier League financial rules 114 times between 2009 and 2018. The charges spanned inaccurate financial reporting, undisclosed player and manager payments, breaches of profitability and sustainability rules and a failure to cooperate with the investigation.

Sanctions have not yet been set. Options remain on the table, from a fine or points deduction to relegation or, in the most extreme scenario, expulsion from the Premier League.
City said “significant elements” of the process are still confidential and have signalled an appeal, with the 14-day appeal window still running. A final ruling may not come until 2027.
Foden’s four-year deal complicates any move
Foden, 26, signed a new contract until 2030 on 22 July, a four-year extension with an option for a further year. He has 369 senior appearances, 110 goals and 20 trophies to his name.
“Committing my future to City means everything to me,” he said at the time.

“Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.”
According to TeamTalk, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur had explored signing Foden before the extension, while AC Milan evaluated a move and Saudi clubs kept tabs during earlier periods of uncertainty.
Kompany signed on at Bayern until 2029
Kompany extended his Bayern contract until 2029 on 21 October 2025, a two-year extension after guiding the club to the Bundesliga title in his first season.
“Vincent Kompany has brought the fun back to FC Bayern, and the spark has really caught on,” Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen said when the deal was announced.

City are now navigating the FFP fallout under Enzo Maresca, appointed on 29 June on a three-year contract after Pep Guardiola stepped down in May at the end of a decade in charge. Maresca has not commented publicly on the Bayern link, and neither has Foden.
