Jack Grealish fined £1,000: His car was 1.4 seconds too late
Most traffic rules are so simple that they cannot be misunderstood. Red means stop. Green means go.
Yet from time to time, drivers either overlook a traffic signal or simply ignore it. For some, it results in a minor fine, while for others it can have more serious consequences.
Now a case from Liverpool has attracted attention because it involves one of the Premier League’s biggest names, according to the Standard.
A court has ordered Jack Grealish to pay £1,044 after traffic cameras recorded his Lamborghini entering a junction after the lights had turned red near central Liverpool.

Police said the offence took place shortly before midnight on September 12 last year. Footage showed the vehicle crossing the intersection just 1,4 seconds after the light had switched to red.
“At 11:36 p.m. on September 12, 2025, a Lamborghini motor vehicle was driving along Leeds Street/Vauxhall Road, Liverpool, Merseyside, when it passed the traffic signal 1.4 seconds after it had changed to red,” said Kevin Scott, head of the Roads Policing Unit at Merseyside Police, in a statement.
Who was driving the car?
The actual charge of running a red light was later dropped, after which the case took a different turn.
Officers contacted properties linked to the player in Manchester and Cheshire to establish who had been driving, but they received no reply.

Kevin Scott told the court that the player had failed to comply with the request to identify the driver.
While the original traffic allegation was dropped, Grealish was sanctioned for not identifying the driver when formally asked to do so.
The incident took place the evening before Grealish played in a 0-0 draw against his former club Aston Villa.
The England international is currently on loan at Everton from Manchester City.
