Harry Kane’s NFL kicker ambition is no longer just a passing line. Speaking to reporters at England’s training base at St George’s Park on Wednesday, the Bayern Munich striker attached a concrete plan to the idea: end his football career in Major League Soccer and let the American calendar bridge him into the other sport.

“Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that it might be a thing where you could connect the two maybe with the seasons.”

“That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously.”

Kane, 33, said penalty kicking already gives him something to build on if he were to make the switch.

“I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure, technique.”

“If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take maybe six months to a year of trying to practice before.”

Kane, a longtime admirer of Tom Brady, drew a clear line between his two American ambitions.

“The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way.”

Kane ‘fairly close’ to Bayern extension

None of this is imminent. Kane is in his fourth season at Bayern Munich, where he has won two Bundesliga titles, and told reporters he is “fairly close” to signing an extension. OneFootball, citing English coverage of the same media session, described him as close to agreeing a new deal in Germany.

“It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do.”

“But, again, it is in the back of my mind because right now I am feeling that I want to play as long as I can here.”

England host Spain, the World Cup winners, on Saturday in the Nations League.
