The clause is the knot. Kane’s side want a buyout written into any extension so that a late-career move back to England is not blocked, according to Sport Bild, whose reporting has driven coverage over the past month. Bayern, by all accounts, are relaxed about granting one.
“Bayern are not afraid of this clause, because they’ve dealt with it before and Kane never ended up triggering it,” BILD’s head of football Christian Falk wrote in September.
Kane’s original 2023 agreement already contained a stepped buyout: around €80m for the summer of 2025 and €65m for the summer of 2026. Neither was activated. The €65m window has now closed, leaving Bayern a single season to tie down a player whose deal expires at the end of 2026-27.
Through 2029, with 2030 in play
Both sides are reportedly aligned on the broad terms. The second round of talks has centred on a contract running to at least 2029, with Kane said to be willing to add a further year to take him through the 2030 World Cup. His current salary of about €25m per season would carry over, and the detail on anything beyond 2029 is still being worked through.

Dreesen flagged the state of play in late July, telling reporters that both sides were “very keen” to extend.
“Now we need to make sure those expectations align and that we find common ground,” he added.
A Ballon d’Or deadline on 26 October
Sport Bild expects the club to try to close the deal after the current international break, with the Ballon d’Or ceremony on 26 October cited as a soft deadline. Kane is among the candidates.
He has made the clause worth protecting. Kane won the Bundesliga top-scorer trophy for the third consecutive season in May, finishing on 36 league goals and 61 across all competitions. He has scored 146 times in 147 appearances for Bayern since arriving from Tottenham in 2023, helped England to third place at this summer’s World Cup, and has opened the new Bundesliga campaign with three league goals under Vincent Kompany.
