Mounir Nasraoui is not letting the result go. In comments carried by Goal, the father of Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal said he wants to sit face-to-face with the Spanish journalist whose ballot helped push Kylian Mbappé above his son in the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

The ceremony in London ended with Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane holding the trophy, the first English winner in 25 years after Michael Owen in 2001. Mbappé finished runner-up on 1,027 points to Kane’s 1,055, a gap of 28. Yamal came third on 881.

Nasraoui’s quarrel is not with Kane. It is with the Spanish ballot that went to a Real Madrid forward over a Barcelona one.

“I wish one day to see on screen one of those who voted for Mbappé, and I would like to speak with him,” he told Goal.

He widened the complaint to what he sees as a Spanish habit of voting against home interest.

“This thing only happens here in Spain. If the best player in the world plays for Real Madrid, then vote for the national team! I’m not saying, it’s an award for a player and not for a team.”

The ballot came from Díaz, at AS

Spain’s seat on the jury is held by José Félix Díaz, editorial director of the Madrid daily AS and France Football’s delegate for the country, according to Goal. He placed Mbappé first.

Díaz has since explained his reasoning. Speaking in comments reported by Yen News, he said he judged Mbappé’s season to be stronger and that Spain’s run was a team effort rather than a one-man show.

“I don’t think Lamine was more decisive than other Spanish players during the World Cup. I think Spain won thanks to its collective.”

Díaz has since said he has received death threats over the vote and is ignoring them, according to Livescore.

France for Mbappé, England for Kane

National delegates often back their own. France’s vote went to Mbappé, England’s to Kane, Argentina’s to Lionel Messi and Georgia’s to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who finished seventh, Goal reported.

Spain was the exception that Nasraoui is now making a story of.

A chair at Barcelona airport

The row over the vote has been running alongside a separate incident involving Nasraoui himself. On his way to the London ceremony, he was involved in an altercation at Barcelona airport, Yahoo Sports reported.

The dispute started over a jacket placed in a restricted area. When staff asked him to move it, the exchange escalated. Nasraoui is alleged to have spat towards a female employee and then thrown a chair at a bystander who tried to step in. Local police resolved the matter at the terminal, and he boarded his flight.

Yamal’s own reply was shorter

While his father went public, the player himself kept it brief. In a social media post the day after the ceremony, Yamal wrote that “good things take time” and that his focus was already back on winning with Barcelona. He also collected the Kopa Trophy as the award’s best young player.
