When you’ve won seven world championships and traveled the globe, you meet all kinds of fans.

But even for Lewis Hamilton, one day stood out from the rest.

He was once handed a pair of miniature Japanese underwear—and asked to autograph them.

Right across the backside.

The British Formula 1 star shared the bizarre story in an interview with The Athletic, when asked about the weirdest thing he’d ever signed:

“A pair of Japanese boxer shorts. And they were really small,” he said with a laugh.

Not Enough to Stop Him

According to Hamilton, he had no idea whether they were hotpants, regular underwear, or just part of some prank.

But that didn’t stop him from doing what was asked. The fans wanted the signature—and they wanted it on the back:

“I just thought, this is really weird. But I signed them anyway. The guy was so enthusiastic. I just imagine him dancing around in his closet wearing them,” Hamilton said.

Moments like that help explain why he remains one of the most beloved figures among fans worldwide.

He takes the absurd in stride—even when it involves microscopic underwear.

Lewis Hamilton has long been more than just a race car driver.

He’s active in the fashion world, outspoken on equality, and tells stories few others in the paddock could ever match.

Most recently, he appeared at the Beverage Forum 2025 in Manhattan Beach, once again showing that he’s a star both on and off the track.

Even if you’ve signed million-dollar contracts, it’s a whole other thing to put your name on a scrap of fabric barely big enough to cover a can of soda.

But that’s life when your name is Lewis Hamilton.
