Lewis Hamilton needs a break due to GTA VI launch
A gamer away from the track
Lewis Hamilton says one of his favorite ways to unwind from Formula 1 is by playing video games, offering a glimpse into how he spends his time away from racing. According to reports from Times of India back in June last years, the seven time world champion regularly turns to gaming as a way to relax between events.
Hamilton described himself as a consistent player, pointing to titles like Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and Gran Turismo as part of his usual rotation. His interest in gaming is not new, as he has previously spoken about enjoying racing simulators and other genres that mirror his competitive instincts.
The one game he is waiting for
While Hamilton enjoys several franchises, one upcoming release stands out clearly above the rest.
“I’m a really good gamer. I play Call of Duty a lot. I also play Assassin’s Creed and Gran Turismo. But when Grand Theft Auto comes out, I’ll definitely have to cancel all my plans,” he said.

The remark highlights just how highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI has become, not only within gaming circles but also among athletes and public figures.
Why GTA VI?
The next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series has drawn widespread attention across entertainment, sports and gaming communities. According to Rockstar Games, the title is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, following a delay to allow for additional development time.
That level of anticipation helps explain Hamilton’s reaction. The franchise is known for its scale and cultural impact, often becoming a major talking point far beyond traditional gaming audiences.
A long running passion for gaming
Hamilton’s comments also reinforce his long standing interest in gaming culture. Beyond casual play, he has previously shown enthusiasm for high performance simulators, which closely align with the precision and skill required in Formula 1.

For Hamilton, gaming appears to serve both as entertainment and as a competitive outlet away from the track, even if one particular release could temporarily take priority over everything else.
