Liam Gallagher’s X account is not usually where the Premier League briefs its most sensitive decisions. On Sunday it briefly played the role anyway.
The Oasis singer posted that an unnamed contact “in a very very high position” had told him Manchester City would escape the harshest outcomes of the case in which an independent commission ruled against the club on 114 of the 115 Premier League financial-rules charges it faced.
Gallagher’s post read:
“Just been told by someone in a very very high position if we lose our appeal which we won’t we’ll be getting a FINE and TRANSFER BAN and that’s it so all you desperate neurotic SPUNKBUBBLES hush it up to ras MCFC LG x”

Pressed on whether he should really be sharing something like that, he offered a one-liner.
“Just said it keep up.”
Morgan’s Pep callback
Piers Morgan, an Arsenal fan who has argued publicly that City should be relegated and stripped of titles, was quick to question the pedigree of the source.
“That the same great source who told you Pep was staying?”

Morgan was reaching back to a Gallagher post from May, in which the singer insisted:
“PEPS STAYING YOU BUNCH OF NEUROTIC SPUNKBUBBLES LG x”
Pep Guardiola later left the club.
What the panel actually ruled
The independent commission’s decision, first reported on 26 September 2026, found City guilty of 114 of 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules covering the years between 2009 and 2018. The Premier League has not published the full findings and has declined to comment, citing the confidentiality of the process.

City indicated they will appeal, and a club statement said the club had “diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator”.
No sanction has been issued. Previous financial cases at other clubs have led to points deductions for Everton and Nottingham Forest, and the range being discussed for City stretches from a fine and a transfer ban at one end to points deductions, title stripping and expulsion from the Premier League at the other.
Nothing in Gallagher’s post has been confirmed by the Premier League, the commission or Manchester City, and the case now moves to the appeal stage.
