Liverpool have spent £360m on attack. Signing Olise would cost them more than all three combined

Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Bayern Munich’s £100m-plus asking price for Michael Olise is the one obstacle Liverpool are unlikely to clear after already pushing their attacking outlay…

Liverpool have rebuilt the top of their attack three times in 15 months, and the bill keeps climbing. Florian Wirtz arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for £116m in June 2025. Alexander Isak followed in a British-record £125m move from Newcastle on 2025 deadline day. Bradley Barcola completed a £123m switch from Paris Saint-Germain on 31 August 2026.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider, believes a fourth nine-figure attacking recruit is where Fenway Sports Group will stop.

“The main problem Liverpool will have with signing Michael Olise is the money,” Brown said.

He put the floor at “well upwards of £100million” for Bayern Munich to even open the conversation, and doubted the appetite was there.

“After the money they spent on Wirtz, Isak and Barcola, I don’t think they’ll be prepared to go out and spend over £100million again.”

Bayern tilt towards a new release clause

Olise is contracted to Bayern Munich until 2029, and the champions are not pointing him towards the exit. Vincent Kompany, whose own contract was extended to 2029 earlier in the year, has made Olise a cornerstone of his attack. Recent reporting indicates the German club is leaning towards an extended deal with a release clause, reportedly set at around €200m, rather than entertaining a sale.

That figure sits well above the ceiling Brown describes and would place Olise in a bracket few European clubs could reach without unbalancing a wage structure.

Olise has started the 2026-27 season in form that justifies the valuation, with four Bundesliga goals and one assist in his first four league matches for Bayern.

Iraola inherits an attack already remade

Head coach Andoni Iraola, who was appointed at Anfield earlier this year, has not been slow to use the new signings. He has fielded Isak and Barcola alongside Wirtz through the opening weeks of the Premier League campaign.

The France international has been on Liverpool’s shortlist since the departure of Mohamed Salah in summer 2025, with the Reds searching for a right-sided attacker of the same elite tier. Barcola’s August arrival has partly filled that profile.

No formal Liverpool bid for Olise has been reported, and his Bayern Munich contract runs until 2029.
