Liverpool identify top Salah replacement as €200m move considered
Liverpool are entering a pivotal period of transition after Mohamed Salah confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season, prompting internal discussions over how to reshape their attack.
The Egypt international announced his decision in a statement on social media, bringing to a close a nine-year spell that has defined one of the most successful periods in the club’s recent history.
“Unfortunately, the day has come. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season,” Salah said.
“Liverpool is not just a football club. It's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit.”
Salah, 33, only signed a two-year contract extension last year, but his early departure means Liverpool will now lose him on a free transfer accelerating the need to identify a successor.

Olise emerges as primary target
Liverpool’s recruitment team have already begun assessing options, with multiple European outlets linking the club to Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise.
According to Bild, Olise has been identified as a leading candidate, with Liverpool reportedly prepared to spend as much as €200 million (£171m) to secure his signature potentially a British-record fee.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a standout campaign in Germany, contributing 23 assists and 15 goals across competitions, numbers that underline his appeal as a direct replacement for Salah’s attacking output.
However, Bayern Munich are not expected to entertain offers, which could complicate any potential move.

Alternatives under consideration
With uncertainty surrounding Olise’s availability, Liverpool are exploring additional options across Europe.
RMC Sport reports that Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao is among the players being monitored. The Portugal international joined the Italian club in 2024 and, while his goal contributions have been limited, he is regarded as one of Serie A’s most effective dribblers.
Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb adds that Conceicao could become a more realistic target if Liverpool are unable to make progress in negotiations for Olise.
Broader shortlist reflects mixed approach
Liverpool’s search appears to balance proven talent with emerging prospects.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola previously valued at around €100 million is once again under consideration after a strong run of form in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig teenager Yan Diomande has also attracted attention. The 19-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough season in Germany and is understood to be on the radar of several top European clubs.
Strategic shift ahead
Replacing Salah presents both a sporting and symbolic challenge for Liverpool, given his sustained influence since arriving from Roma in 2017.
Rather than pursuing a like-for-like replacement, the club’s reported shortlist suggests a broader reassessment of how their forward line could evolve whether through an established star such as Olise or a younger profile with long-term potential.
