Federico Chiesa has barely featured for new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola this season, with injury and the pecking order both weighing against him, according to reporting via Anfield Index. He was also left out of Liverpool’s Champions League league-phase squad this autumn, usually the clearest signal a club can send about a player’s standing.

Liverpool have decided to move him on in the January window and are seeking around €15m, roughly in line with the £12.5m they paid Juventus for him in the summer of 2024, Yahoo adds. His contract at Anfield runs until 30 June 2028.

Chiesa himself would rather not go home. According to Football365, citing Tuttomercatoweb, his desire to stay in England and keep experiencing the Premier League has stopped any return to Italy from getting off the ground. The problem is that the clubs actually making calls to Anfield are all based south of the Alps.

Serie A circles, England stays quiet

AC Milan and Lazio have been linked with enquiries about his situation, Football365 reports, with Inter floated as a possible solution after earlier interest. A loan with an option to buy is now described as the most realistic structure. No Premier League club has been linked publicly.

Earlier in the autumn, TeamTalk reported that Napoli and Inter were pushing hardest for the winger, with his roughly €7m-a-year net salary cited as a significant hurdle for Italian suitors.

Last season set the tone

The numbers from his debut 2024-25 campaign explain Liverpool’s willingness to listen. Chiesa made 26 Premier League appearances but started only one, finishing with 315 minutes, two goals and one assist.

Jamie Carragher put it bluntly on broadcast, as quoted by Football365, when he said Liverpool had “two players in the squad who are never going to play”, adding that Chiesa and Wataru Endo were “never going to kick a ball”.

Chiesa turned 29 on 25 October. The Premier League’s mid-season window opens on 1 January 2027.
