One goal in six matches. That is the ledger Luis Díaz has taken into the international break, a stretch of form that stands well apart from the debut campaign he produced in Bavaria last year.
The 29-year-old spoke to Sky Germany about the return in front of goal and did not sound rattled.
“I’m looking for my best version and I’ll find it soon. I believe that goal will come in the next game.”
“I know it’s just about finishing my chances. The only thing missing is the finishing, and then everything will be good.”
The contrast with last season is stark. In 2025-26 Díaz returned 26 goals and 23 assists in 51 appearances after arriving from Liverpool for a reported fee of up to €75m, a first campaign that made the move look like a bargain. His four-year deal at Bayern runs until 2029.
‘The desire will never be missing’
The interview followed Bayern’s 2-1 win at Elversberg on 13 September, in which Harry Kane’s late finish rescued Kompany’s side. Díaz started on the bench.
“I’ve always said that the desire will never be missing for me. The hunger for more, that will always be my mentality.”
Speaking about the team’s level after the same match, Díaz was equally candid.

“We’re not yet at the level we were at, but we have everything we need to have an even more successful season!”
Two points off the leaders
Bayern sit fourth in the Bundesliga, level on seven points from three matchdays and two adrift of Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund at the top. Kompany, who joined the club from Burnley in 2024 and is under contract until 2029, oversaw a record 122 league goals and the domestic double last season.
The next chance to break the run comes on Friday, 18 September, when Union Berlin visit the Allianz Arena for matchday 4. Kick-off is at 8:30pm local time.
