Luis Enrique speaks out on PSG’s growing Ligue 1 title challenge
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia led the scoring with two goals, while Senny Mayulu, Ibrahim Mbaye and Gonçalo Ramos each found the net. According to Ligue 1+, the win extended PSG’s remarkable home scoring streak to 40 consecutive league matches, a run that has now produced 104 goals.
Rennes, meanwhile, endured their heaviest Ligue 1 defeat since a 6–0 loss to Nancy in 2005. The visitors had stretches of possession but struggled to contain PSG’s movement in midfield and on the counter.
Crowded top of the table
Despite the emphatic display, PSG did not reclaim top spot. Lens kept hold of first place with a 2–1 victory over Nantes, preserving a one-point lead. It’s one of the tightest margins at this stage of the season since 2020–21, when Lille ultimately edged PSG for the title.
Several challengers remain close behind. Marseille and Lille sit four points back, while Lyon could draw within six depending on their result at Lorient. Luis Enrique said the pressure from nearby rivals has become an asset rather than a burden.

“It was practically perfect. We deserved the victory. Rennes played very well, they don't really deserve this result,” he told Ligue 1+. “We really like going through hardship, we are a team used to that… If there are more teams motivated to play for the title, that's perfect. It's a source of motivation for us.”
Young players seize their moment
Mayulu’s goal continued what PSG staff have described as a rapid rise through the senior ranks. League archives show he is now the club’s third-youngest player to reach double-digit goals across all competitions, following Eric Renaut and Kylian Mbappé. Mbaye also scored, adding to what has been a steady string of promising performances from the club’s younger cohort.
Luis Enrique said their composure stood out as much as their technical quality.
“When you see youngsters with those qualities, with their personality to play at the Parc des Princes, without feeling any pressure, it's very important,” he said. “I am very demanding with young people; they must value the trust we place in them.”
Looking ahead
Ligue 1+ match data showed PSG produced 20 attempts to Rennes’ six and held a clear advantage in expected goals. Their schedule now turns toward Europe, with a trip to Athletic Club on Wednesday in the Champions League before resuming domestic competition against Metz next weekend.
