The move was announced on Tuesday, two days before United’s Champions League opener, and replaces DXC Technology, whose four-year run on the sleeve of the shirt ended at the close of last season.

United have not disclosed the value of the multi-year deal but describe it as their “biggest ever sleeve partnership.” The DXC agreement it replaces was worth approximately £20 million a year, which sets the floor for what SumUp is now paying.

“SumUp is a rapidly growing global business and we are delighted to welcome them to Manchester United as our Official Sleeve Partner,” said Marc Armstrong, the club’s chief business officer.

From DXC to a fintech push on the sleeve

DXC Technology arrived on the sleeve for 2022-23 and stayed for four straight seasons, a stretch that overlapped with United’s worst competitive run in decades. Its contract expired in the summer, freeing a headline commercial slot at the moment the club could sell it back into European football.

SumUp, described in its own materials as a global fintech serving small and medium-sized merchants, has been building visibility in the English game. Last month it signed on as Newcastle United’s official training kit partner, a supporting slot in the sponsorship hierarchy. The Old Trafford deal is a step up in both tier and profile, placing the SumUp logo on one of the most watched shirts in world football.

Luke Griffiths, SumUp’s chief commercial officer and UK CEO, spoke to the club’s reach.

“Manchester United is one of the most iconic and followed clubs in the world, with a fanbase that continues to grow across generations and borders.”

A Champions League shirt changes the pricing

United clinched a return to the Champions League on 3 May 2026 with a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, their first appearance in the competition since 2023-24. Two seasons off the biggest European stage had hit both revenue and negotiating leverage.

Selling a sleeve back into a Champions League shirt is a different conversation, and it is the one United used to clear the DXC benchmark. The SumUp agreement follows a training kit deal with Betway as part of a broader rebuild of the club’s commercial inventory, with the timing engineered so the new logo appears on the shirt for a Champions League opener rather than during pre-season.
