Manchester United star Mainoo thriving again yet new deal unresolved
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has quickly re-established himself as an important part of the team under manager Michael Carrick, who recently described the young midfielder as a “huge talent.”
Speaking to BBC Sport last month, Carrick highlighted Mainoo’s development and composure despite his age.
Carrick said he had worked with Mainoo during the player’s early teenage years while completing his coaching badges and had followed his progress closely. The United manager added that the midfielder’s ability to perform in high-pressure matches at such a young age is “quite incredible.”
Mainoo has returned to the starting line-up since Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim earlier this season, and his recent performances have strengthened his role in United’s midfield.

Contract uncertainty remains
Despite his growing influence in the team, questions about Mainoo’s long-term future at Old Trafford have not been fully resolved.
According to talkSPORT, Manchester United were preparing to open negotiations over a new long-term contract that could significantly increase the player’s current salary of around £25,000 per week.
However, the Daily Mail reports that discussions between the club and the player’s representatives have not progressed smoothly. The outlet said there are still unresolved issues between Mainoo’s camp and the club’s hierarchy.
The report also claimed that the midfielder had previously agreed to a compromise regarding contract terms but did not receive a response from the club until after Amorim left his role in January.

As a result, it remains unclear whether the same proposal would still be acceptable to the player’s representatives after his increased involvement in the team under Carrick.
Mainoo signed his current deal with Manchester United in 2023, which runs until 2027.
Summer interest from other clubs
Uncertainty surrounding his role earlier in the season had previously sparked speculation about a possible move away from the club.
During the summer transfer window, the midfielder was reportedly frustrated with limited playing time under Amorim. According to reports, several European clubs were monitoring the situation, including Chelsea and Napoli.

Mainoo ultimately chose to remain at Manchester United, and his decision now appears to have worked in his favor following his return to a regular starting role.
With veteran midfielder Casemiro reportedly expected to depart in the upcoming transfer window, Mainoo could become even more central to United’s midfield plans in the coming seasons.
