Mbappe’s four-goals helps Real Madrid in a time of chaos

The tone was set long before kickoff. During the warm-up, Olympiacos supporters jeered Mbappé and shouted broken French at him in an attempt to get under his skin. After the match, he shrugged it off with a smile.

Speaking to RMC Sport, he said the fans were speaking “bad French,” adding that none of it mattered: “I was focused on my team… on helping them.”

A chaotic match turns on Mbappé

Olympiacos struck first through Chiquinho, lifting the stadium into full voice. But the early momentum swung quickly. According to RMC Sport’s match coverage, Mbappé slipped behind the defense to equalize in the 22nd minute.

Two minutes later he rose to meet Arda Güler’s cross with a powerful header. Before the half-hour mark, he had completed his hat-trick by racing onto a long ball from Eduardo Camavinga and finishing with confidence.

Olympiacos refused to fade. They continued to press, pulled goals back, and turned the match into a tense back-and-forth contest. Mbappé’s fourth, scored early in the second half, gave Madrid the advantage they needed, but it did not kill the game. Olympiacos kept coming, and Madrid had to defend deep in the final minutes to protect the 4–3 scoreline.

Pushing back on talk of dependence

After the match, Mbappé was asked again whether Madrid rely too heavily on him. The striker rejected the framing.

“It’s absurd,” he told RMC Sport. He insisted that his goals depend on the work of the team and that conversations about dependence are “for journalists or people outside the team.”

Standing behind Alonso

Much of the discussion around Madrid in recent weeks has focused on head coach Xabi Alonso, who entered the match under pressure after a three-game winless run. Mbappé defended him publicly, saying the squad remains united.

“We are very close, we have to support the coach, the staff, everyone,” he said. He pointed to the team’s energy as proof that the group is still aligned.

Spanish sports outlets such as Marca and AS have recently reported frustration within parts of the dressing room over rotations and tactical choices. Other players, including Mbappé and Thibaut Courtois, were described as strongly backing Alonso. The club has not issued a formal response to the reports.

Madrid move forward

The 4–3 win provides Madrid with relief and momentum as they turn their attention to the upcoming league match against Girona.

It was a furious, unpredictable match, shaped by noise, pressure and mistakes. But it was ultimately decided by Mbappé, who walked off the pitch smiling with four goals, three points and a night that reminded everyone why he remains Madrid’s most decisive player.
