Bayern want to lock down the French winger for another three years. The offer on the table would raise his pay from €14m net to €25m net annually from 2027, putting him on the same wage band as Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala.

Olise’s current contract runs until 2029. The proposed extension would carry him through to the summer of 2032.

What has stalled the talks is not the money. It is a clause.

The €200m condition

Olise’s representatives have told Bayern they will only sign if a release clause is written in, reported to be set at around €200m. His agent Glen Tweneboah has pushed for an exit price as a condition of signing, viewing it as non-negotiable leverage.

Bayern’s position has been that no release clause exists in the current deal and no appetite exists for one.

“Michael has made extraordinary progress with us. There is no release clause,” sporting director Max Eberl said, adding that discussions would open after the international break.

Eberl has also set a self-imposed deadline on the whole exercise.

“By next summer, we should know whether he is inclined to extend.”

Supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, speaking to German media, framed the task differently, saying the club “will have to sit down with the player and present him with an offer that reflects his current importance.”

Why Bayern are moving now

The urgency comes from the summer. Real Madrid attempted to recruit Olise during the 2026 World Cup, where he provided seven assists for France and broke Pelé’s long-standing record for assists in a single World Cup. According to reporting in Spain and Germany, Kylian Mbappé spoke directly with Olise about a switch to the Bernabéu, with Aurélien Tchouaméni also involved in the conversations.

Bayern blocked the move. Olise stayed.

This season has only strengthened his hand. He has eight goals and four assists in his first seven Bundesliga matches, following a 2025-26 campaign in which he was named Bundesliga Player of the Season with 22 goals and 29 assists across all competitions.

A deal that may not end the uncertainty

Even if Bayern agree to the clause, the problem does not disappear. A €200m release price is high enough to deter most buyers, but Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and the Premier League’s leading clubs have paid that kind of figure before. Signing the extension on these terms would mean paying Olise elite wages while handing a future suitor a fixed exit route.

Talks are expected to open once the international break ends.
