A long-awaited breakthrough

Nikkita Lyons has reached the first major title milestone of her WWE career, defeating Wendy Choo to become the new WWE Evolve Women’s Champion.

According to Jeremy Lambert in Fightful’s report on Lyons’ title win, Lyons won the championship at WWE Evolve Succession III, ending Choo’s reign after 70 days. The finish saw Lyons put Choo away with a spinning front kick to claim the title.

The victory gives Lyons her first reign as Evolve Women’s Champion and her first championship under the WWE banner. For a wrestler who has often appeared close to a breakout run, the win represents a clear step forward.

Four years after her NXT arrival

Lyons first made an impression on WWE television in 2022, when she debuted on NXT and quickly drew attention for her striking offense and distinct presentation.

According to Dominic DeAngelo in WrestleZone’s report on Lyons’ NXT debut, she defeated Kayla Inlay on the February 22, 2022 episode of NXT. The performance gave her an immediate platform, though her rise was later slowed by injuries and changes in direction.

That history makes the Evolve title win feel less like a sudden promotion and more like a delayed payoff. Lyons has remained a recognizable name in WWE’s developmental system, but championship success had remained out of reach until now.

A new opening on Evolve

The WWE Evolve Women’s Championship is still a relatively young title, but it has quickly become an important part of the company’s wider developmental structure. For Lyons, winning it gives her a defined place on the brand and a clearer route into future stories.

As reported by Shounak Chakrabarti in F4W/WON’s account of the title change, the match aired on the June 24, 2026 edition of WWE Evolve, although it was taped on May 29. Choo had originally won the championship on March 20.

The title change now puts Lyons in position to carry a division rather than simply chase a spot in it. It also gives WWE a chance to test how far her popularity and presentation can go when attached to championship responsibility.

A reign with something to prove

For Lyons, the next stage will matter as much as the win itself. A first title can validate a wrestler’s progress, but the reign often determines whether that moment becomes a turning point or a brief achievement.

Her blend of martial arts-inspired offense, confidence and crowd connection has long made her stand out. Now, with a championship attached to her name, WWE has a reason to present her as more than a prospect.

After several years of interrupted momentum, Lyons finally has gold. The question now is what she does with it.
