OGC Nice player assaulted by fans and put on medical leave

The team flew back to the Côte d’Azur following the match, but tensions around the club were already rising. When the players’ bus approached the training center, a large group of supporters had gathered at the entrance.

The Athletic reported that about 400 fans positioned themselves near the gates and around parked cars, creating a blockage that prevented the bus and several players from entering the facility.

Witnesses told the outlet that some players remained inside their cars as the standoff escalated.

Assaults as the situation worsened

According to The Athletic, several members of the squad were confronted directly. Jeremie Boga, Terem Moffi and sporting director Florian Maurice were among those targeted by the crowd.

Boga, who previously came through Chelsea’s academy before joining Nice, had already been under criticism from parts of the fanbase. Last month he apologised for allowing Marseille supporters into the Allianz Riviera during a 5 to 1 home defeat, a decision that angered many fans.

During Sunday’s confrontation the violence intensified. RMC Sport reported that Boga was punched, kicked, spat on and subjected to racist insults. Security personnel were unable to control the situation as the crowd grew more aggressive.

Rescue and immediate aftermath

Nice goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf eventually reached Boga and pulled him away from the attackers, according to RMC Sport.

The club has not issued a detailed public statement, but both outlets report that the Ivory Coast international has now been placed on medical leave while he recovers from the physical and psychological effects of the assault.

He is expected to miss the upcoming league match against Angers. His return will depend on medical evaluations in the coming days.

A club under growing pressure

Nice’s poor run of form has intensified frustration among supporters. The team has dropped to tenth place in Ligue 1, and their European campaign has also fallen apart. They remain winless in the Europa League and sit at the bottom of their group.

With fan anger now spilling over into direct confrontations, the club may come under scrutiny from league authorities. Internal discussions about additional security measures are expected soon.
