More Proud of the Journey Than the Result
Piastri had a tough start to the season in his home country of Australia, where rain in the final stages dropped him to ninth place.
But since then, he has been almost untouchable. However, it’s not the points that bring him the most joy.
“The championship lead is nice, but I already said after Saudi Arabia that I’m much more proud and satisfied with the work and the reasons behind it than I am with actually leading,” he told RacingNews365.
A Strong Comeback
Even though Melbourne didn’t give him many points, he felt that he and the team executed well – and that has been the foundation for his subsequent comeback.
“It went well in terms of execution, but since I started with a deficit and have caught it all up, that’s probably what I enjoy the most – the reasons we are leading the championship,” he explained.

With his three consecutive wins, Piastri has done something no McLaren driver has achieved since Mika Häkkinen in 1998. And although he is now a favorite in the title fight, he appears to be a man who is just as focused on the long game – and the satisfaction that comes with doing things the right way.
