Premier League trio target Barcelona star

Barcelona may soon be forced into a difficult decision over Jules Kounde, with several Premier League clubs monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

The French defender remains under contract until 2030 and has become a regular under Hansi Flick. However, the club’s ongoing financial constraints mean even key players could come under consideration if significant offers arrive.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are all keeping a close eye on Kounde. City have already made an initial approach to understand whether Barcelona would be open to discussions, while Chelsea’s admiration dates back to his time at Sevilla. Liverpool are also believed to be assessing defensive options as they plan for next season.

Barcelona have so far resisted any suggestion of a sale. Sporting director Deco confirmed that while contact has been made, no formal bid has followed.
“There wasn't an offer as such, but City called to ask if he was available. Since we told them no, there was no offer,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

Kounde’s versatility has made him particularly valuable. Although naturally a central defender, he has been deployed primarily at right-back this season, offering tactical flexibility that few players in the squad can match.

That importance, however, is balanced against the club’s financial reality. Barcelona are expected to pursue reinforcements in multiple areas, and raising funds through player sales remains one of the most viable options. Reports from England suggest a valuation in the region of €80 million, a figure that could test the club’s resolve if formally presented.

At the same time, Barcelona are working to secure continuity in defence, including efforts to retain Joao Cancelo, which would lessen the impact of any potential departure.

The timing adds another layer of complexity. Barcelona are locked in a tight La Liga title race and also preparing for a Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid. Strong performances from Kounde in these high-profile matches could further increase his appeal to interested clubs.

For now, Barcelona’s public stance remains firm. But with Premier League sides circling and financial pressures still looming, the situation could evolve quickly once the transfer window opens.
