Paris Saint-Germain want a new contract on the table for Kvaratskhelia before he becomes a Ballon d’Or laureate, according to reporting from L’Équipe carried by Get French Football News. The Georgian is tied to the club until 2029, but the plan is to push the deal out to 2030 or 2031 with a pay rise attached.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony is set for 26 October in London, with the 30-man shortlist due on 8 September. Getting the extension done before then, the reporting suggests, keeps a negotiation simple that a trophy would complicate overnight. One option under discussion is a pre-agreed clause that would trigger in the event of him winning.
An agreement in the coming weeks is described as “highly likely”. A separate report from French transfer insider Djamel, carried by PSG Talk, says the new deal would make Kvaratskhelia “one of the best paid players in the world” and that both the coaching staff and the boardroom want him as “a pillar of the Paris project”.
From Naples to a European double
Kvaratskhelia, 25, arrived in France in the middle of the 2024-25 season, with Napoli and PSG agreeing a €70m fee that could rise close to €80m with add-ons. He signed until June 2029 on wages reported at €9m a season plus bonuses.

Since then he has produced 28 goals and 19 assists in 84 appearances for PSG, and the club has won back-to-back Champions League titles, beating Arsenal on penalties in Budapest on 30 May 2026 to defend the trophy Luis Enrique’s side had lifted the previous year.
A rare position of strength
The context matters. PSG have spent much of the last decade paying to keep stars from leaving on free transfers or on the front foot of a bidding war. Kvaratskhelia is neither. He is 25, contracted for three more seasons, and by all accounts settled.
That is precisely why the club wants to move now. A Ballon d’Or top-three finish, let alone a win, tends to reset a player’s market value and expectations at the same time. The French insider report describes him as “appreciated by everyone at the club” and content in Paris, but adds the caveat that “football is full of surprises”.
For now, no official announcement has been made by PSG or by Kvaratskhelia’s camp. The Ballon d’Or shortlist lands on 8 September; the ceremony follows on 26 October in London.
