Liverpool have reportedly put a £35m price tag on Frimpong just 16 months after signing him, with the right-back open to joining Barcelona. The claim surfaced in the Spanish press on Monday and was picked up across the English press on 5 October 2026.

According to the report, Frimpong “is very open to signing with Barça”, and Liverpool are “opening the door to his exit for £35M”.

The asking price is only about £5m more than the fee Liverpool paid Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, a sharp rate of depreciation for a 25-year-old on a long-term contract.

179 Premier League minutes, two starts

Frimpong’s playing time under Andoni Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot in June 2026, has collapsed. Multiple outlets report he has made two Premier League starts and 179 minutes in the league this season, with 31 further minutes in the Champions League.

The tactical reason has a name: Ronald Araújo. Liverpool brought the Uruguay international in on loan from Barcelona in early August, with an option to buy. Officially the signing was to add depth at centre-back, but Iraola has been using Araújo at right-back and clearly prefers his defensive profile to Frimpong’s attacking one.

The Dutch defender was signed to help replace the creativity Trent Alexander-Arnold took to Real Madrid in the summer of 2025. The Spanish report instead describes him as “going through a nightmare at Liverpool, unable to adapt to England”, and says he does not factor into Iraola’s plans.

Flick wants him, Porro the alternative

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is said to have requested Frimpong in his first year at the club, and the Catalans are monitoring his situation ahead of the January transfer window. Tottenham’s Pedro Porro is reportedly the alternative on their shortlist.

The £35m figure remains a reporter’s number, not a club statement. The January transfer window opens on 1 January 2027.
