Shock Fifa ban freezes Al nassr transfers after missed multimillion euro payment

Registration ban confirmed

FIFA has placed Al Nassr under a registration ban that prevents the club from signing and registering new players until further notice. The sanction directly affects the club’s ability to operate in the transfer market, although it does not impact match eligibility for players already under contract.

According to the football focused account NassrXtra, the restriction stems from an unresolved financial obligation rather than any sporting or disciplinary breach.

Unpaid transfer instalment at the center

The issue is connected to Al Nassr’s transfer of defender Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City. As part of that deal, the Saudi club agreed to pay the transfer fee in instalments.

According to NassrXtra, one of those payments, valued at approximately nine million euros, was due on August 31 but was not paid by the deadline. FIFA subsequently activated the registration ban in line with its regulations on overdue contractual payments between clubs.

Administrative action not a punishment

The ban is considered administrative in nature and is commonly used by FIFA to enforce financial compliance. It does not carry sporting sanctions such as fines, point deductions, or competition bans.

Reports indicate that the situation is procedural rather than contentious, with no suggestion of an ongoing dispute between Al Nassr and Manchester City.

Financial resolution will unlock transfers

Once the outstanding amount is paid in full, the restriction is expected to be lifted immediately. Until then, Al Nassr can continue competing with its current squad but remains unable to register new signings.

The timing could prove significant, as transfer planning and squad depth decisions are effectively paused until the financial matter is resolved.
